Do you like philosophy, attend a Swiss school and are younger than twenty years old? Then take part in the Swiss Philosophy Olympiad 2018 and write a philosophical essay (up to 1000 words) to one of the following topics:

  1. Is it easier to know others or to know oneself?
  2. Must one stay loyal?
  3. “The first experience, or to be more precise, the first observation is always a first obstacle for the scientific culture” (Gaston Bachelard)
  4. “A state, is called the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly lieth it also; and this lie creepeth from its mouth: ‘I, the state, am the people.’” (Friedrich Nietzsche)

Keep in mind to be consistent in your argumentation (coherence), to provide arguments for your claims (power of argumentation), to express your own ideas (originality), to only write about your topic (relevance) and to explain the philosophical context of your topic (context).

The two winners of the national final will get the opportunity to travel to Bar, Montenegro and take part in the International Philosophy Olympiad (23rd to 27th of may).
